THE Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team was called to the Parkbury Hotel in Sandown on the Isle of Wight yesterday evening (Saturday).
They were called after an aerosol canister with a firelighter attached to it was found in the derelict hotel.
For safety, the explosive ordnance disposal team attended to assist police and the fire service with their expertise, said a spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary.
In the early hours of Saturday morning, a major fire broke out at the Broadway site.

Fire crews from Sandown, Shanklin, Ryde, Newport, Cowes and Ventnor were all called to the scene at the Parkbury Hotel in Sandown, following a report of smoke issuing from the building just before 1am.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used jets, hose reel jets and an aerial ladder platform to tackle the flames on the second floor and roof space.
The fire service and police continue to investigate the exact cause of the blaze, and the fire is being treated as suspicious.
