AN ISLE of Wight police officer is the subject of an upcoming misconduct hearing – accused of using excessive force against a youth.
PC Stuart Pearson’s case is due to be heard in Eastleigh on Monday, February 19.
The hearing is estimated to last four days.
On June 21, 2022, the Island-based officer is said to have attended the home address of a youth to complete a community resolution order.
It is alleged, that during the course of that meeting, there was an altercation between PC Pearson and the youth, and the former’s actions were deemed to amount to an excessive use of force.
It is also alleged that his subsequent description of events, reported to the police control room, differed from those recorded on his body worn video equipment.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary states: “It is alleged that the behaviour of the officer towards the youth and the excessive force used upon him fell below the standards expected of police officers, and that such conduct amounted to a breach of Standards of Professional Behaviour in respect of the strands of Use of Force, Authority, Respect and Courtesy and Discreditable Conduct.
“It is alleged that these matters, both individually and collectively, amounted to gross misconduct, namely a breach of the standards of professional behaviour that, if proven, is so serious the officer’s dismissal would be justified.”
