ROADWORKS due to be carried out next week on the only direct road to Shanklin serving Ventnor, following the major Isle of Wight landslip at Bonchurch, have been delayed to a future date, say Island Roads.

Victoria Avenue in Shanklin was due to close along its entire length for footway maintenance and resurfacing works, for one week (or when the works have been completed) sometime between Friday, February 16, and Friday, March 29.

Currently, Leeson Road in Ventnor is closed to all traffic to and from Shanklin.

Victoria Avenue is the most direct route to Shanklin for Ventnor residents.

An Island Roads spokesperson said: "The works are not going ahead next week and will be re-planned for another time."

When do commence, they will take place between 9.30am and 4pm on any given day.
