A SECOND flood alert has been issued for the Isle of Wight – this time for the Eastern Yar.
The Environment Agency (EA) says the water level in the Eastern Yar is high and rising.
In the past 48 hours, nearly 50mm of rain has been recorded at Wroxall.
“From 10pm this evening, water will be ponded on low lying land adjacent to the river throughout the river valley,” says the EA.
“Road, cycle track and footpath flooding is expected.
“At Langbridge and Alverstone Road Bridge, the river will be close to the top of the riverbank.
“Property flooding is not expected.
“Expect flooding of Golf Links Road and Morton Common Road in Sandown.
“Ditches around Fort Holiday Park will struggle to drain while river levels are high.
“Further rain (15-30mm) is forecast over the next 24 hours.
“Water levels will continue to rise, and we may need to issue a further flood warning.
“We have checked Bembridge sluice is operating normally.
“We continue to monitor the forecast and will ensure the river remains free of any reported blockages.
“If you live near the river, please take action now to ensure you can protect your property.”
