A suspected shoplifter has been arrested following an incident at an Isle of Wight supermarket, allegedly involving a knuckleduster.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary was called to Morrisons, Newport at 6.34pm last night (Wednesday).
Police said they received reports of shoplifting in progress and it was also reported that a member of security staff had been assaulted.
Officers attended and arrested a 26-year-old man.
He was detained on suspicion of common assault, common assault of an emergency worker, resisting arrest, possession of an offensive weapon in public (namely a knuckleduster), possession of cannabis, and theft.
Members of the public witnessed the arrest take place.
The man remains in police custody.
