A 16 year old boy from Ventnor has been arrested, following an alleged attack on a Southern Vectis bus driver.
Police were called on Monday, January 29, to a report of an assault at Newport Bus Station on Orchard Street.
It was reported that a man in his 30s, a bus driver, was assaulted at around 10pm. Police say he suffered minor injuries.
Police have since arrested a 16-year-old boy on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The boy has been bailed with conditions until April 30 while police enquiries continue.
Yesterday, Southern Vectis said it would not tolerate abuse of its staff and said they would help the police with their enquiries.
They said the driver, on the number 5 bus, was hit by a bottle.
The bus firm said the driver suffered injuries to his face and had to seek medical treatment.
Southern Vectis wished him a speedy recovery.
