Strong winds have continued to batter the Isle of Wight today (Monday, January 22), with the Met Office confirming The Needles was in the top three for highest wind gusts in the UK during Storm Isha.
The national forecaster said The Needles experienced the third highest wind gust during the storm overnight on Sunday.
Gusts at the exposed site exceeded 80mph and peaked at around 86mph.
The only gusts higher than The Needles in the UK were Capel Curig in North Wales, at 90mph, and Brizlee Wood in Northumberland, at 99mph.

Storm Isha brought strong winds to the Island on Sunday and into today, with the Met Office issuing an amber weather warning.

Strong winds overnight sent a truck roof flying onto Sandown beach, and saw the closure of Lidl in Newport, after gusts damaged the store's roof.
The record wind speed at The Needles is 122mph, recorded in February 2022 during Storm Eunice, with the highest gusts recorded this year on January 2 at 94mph.
A new storm, Jocelyn, was named this afternoon, but with no weather warning in place for the Island, it is expected to be less impactful than Storm Isha.
