AN ISLE of Wight chef who crashed his car while over the limit for alcohol on New Year's Day has been banned from the road.
Morgan Streeter, of The Avenue, Totland, appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates on Tuesday, January 16.
The 19-year-old admitted drink driving near Carisbrooke, on January 1.
Prosecutor, Liz Miller, said police were alerted to reports of a single-vehicle crash on Calbourne Road at around 2pm.
She said officers approached Streeter at the scene and he confirmed he was the driver of a blue Mini Cooper which struck a kerb.
He went on to produce a clear-glass bottle from his jacket pocket containing white rum.
Streeter was arrested and taken to the police station, and he registered a breath-alcohol reading of 62 when the legal limit is 35.
Oscar Vincent, defending, said Streeter had no previous convictions and was fully co-operative with police.
He had been out for New Year’s celebrations and consumed alcohol the night before. The evening passed by without incident and Streeter had an errand to run in Newport the following day.
The court heard he didn’t leave the house until he felt OK to drive, and had not touched alcohol since the incident.
Streeter was fined £120 with costs of £85 and a £48 surcharge.
He was disqualified from driving for 18 months.
