A NEW magazine is launching later this month, dedicated to wordsmiths from across the Isle of Wight.
The Figlet, which launches on January 27, is the brain baby of Jean G-Owen, creator of popular spoken word and musical Figgy Gigs in Yarmouth.
Expect a literary magazine packed full of interviews and reviews, as well as new and specially commissioned offerings.
The magazine aims to focus on writers who “fly somewhat under the radar”, as well as those who are known, loved, and followed.
Fiction, non-fiction, and poetry will all feature, spanning an eclectic list of genres.
“I’ve had an inspiring amount of interest in the project,” says Jean,
“And I’m excited to be showcasing some 30 writers in the magazine.”
Writers include well-known names; the likes of historian Kevin Shaw and novelist Felicity Fair Thomson, as well as newer entries in Annys Brady and comic playwright and performer Cheryl May.
Jean, who launched her own book of poetry last year, will also contribute.
The launch – appropriately featuring performances, readings and music – will be at CHOYD, the community hall of Yarmouth and District.
You can book your seat by emailing jean28owen@gmail.com, or by calling 07715 985689.
The Figlet will be available from January 29 at Medina Bookshop, Cowes, The Works, Newport, and Babushka, Shanklin.
