A MAGISTRATE told an Isle of Wight woman her drink-drive reading of more than four times the legal limit was one of the highest he had ever seen.
Beata Mazurek, of Rooke Street, Newport, admitted drink driving behind the wheel of a Nissan Qashqai, in Ryde on December 16.
The 41-year-old, with no previous convictions, was seen by officers from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary to be swerving across the road, court was told. She was pulled over at 10.35pm.
When police questioned Mazurek, they could smell alcohol and saw bottles of wine in the footwell of her car, said Lauren Stone, prosecuting, at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court on Friday, December 5.
Following her arrest, Mazurek provided a breath-alcohol reading of 156 microgrammes. The legal limit is 35.
Unrepresented in court, Mazurek explained she'd had "a very difficult month".
"I can't explain why I did it. It's something I've never done before," she told the bench.
Mazurek was bailed to reappear for sentencing at the same venue on February 16.
Magistrates ordered a report on Mazurek and made her subject to an interim driving ban.
Presiding, Keith Jones, told her: "In all my years as a magistrate, this was one of the highest readings I've ever known."
