AN ISLE of Wight flood alert remains in effect this morning (Thursday), with the Environment Agency (EA) advising East Wight residents to protect their homes and gardens.
The water level in the Eastern Yar is now steadily falling, says the EA, but due to the saturated nature of the Eastern Yar catchment, the river remains responsive to relatively small amounts of rain.
Showers are forecast today, from midday, with heavy rain (20-30mm widespread with isolated totals of 45mm) expected.
If realised, this could result in a flood warnings being issued for the upper (Whitwell, Wroxall, Langbridge, Alverstone) and lower (Sandown, Brading and Bembridge) Eastern Yar, warns the EA.

Isle of Wight weather sees rain, flooding and Morton Common closure
Local forecaster, Jamie Russell, says the latest data suggests 20-30mm of rain is possible in some parts of the Island, with perhaps a little more in some places.
While these are not huge totals, they may lead to further flooding due to the amount of rain that has fallen in the last 48 hours.
