Doors to one of the Isle of Wight's Wetherspoons were briefly locked with customers inside late last night (Friday), following reports of 'lads brandishing knives' in the street.
Door staff at S. Fowler & Co, Union Street, Ryde took the action in the event that they tried to enter the pub, the company told the County Press.
A spokesperson for JD Wetherspoon said: "Customers were allowed to leave if they wished but were warned about the lads outside."
They said the individuals were not customers and did not try and enter the pub.
Doors were shut for 20 minutes, the spokesperson added.
The incident is said to have unfolded at around midnight.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary has been approached for comment.
S. Fowler & Co is open as usual today.
