SEVERAL Islanders are among those celebrating the arrival of 2024, with mentions in the New Year's Honours list.
Diana Violet O’Grady has been recognised with a BEM, for services to the Arreton community.
Dean Mark Terrett, meanwhile, has similarly made the list for a BEM, for services to search and rescue on the Isle of Wight.
Dean is the chairperson and founder of voluntary search and rescue team WightSAR.
Ambulance education, training and engagement lead, Louise Victoria Walker, has been recognised with a King’s Ambulance Service Medal (KAM), for her outstanding contribution to the community.
Louise, who was born on the Island and grew up in Cowes, has worked in the NHS for over 23 years.
She said: “To receive this award is such a privilege and I feel extremely humbled.
“I’m incredibly grateful to be part of this team who work so hard, I do a job I love and work with the most wonderful people.
“It’s all for the community we live and work in, and for the island that I grew up on and I love.”
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust chief executive, Deborah Janine Tann, has also earned inclusion for her services to wildlife and the natural environment, and has been awarded a CBE.
Wildlife conservationist Roy Henry Dennis, on the other hand, has been awarded an OBE for his services to wildlife, reintegrating species such as the sea eagle to locations in the UK, including the Isle of Wight.
A former Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary Superintendent, who served the county for almost three decades, is also set to receive the King's Police Medal for services to policing.
Annabel Berry, more commonly known as Bel, retired from policing in August after joining the Constabulary in 1995 as a Police Constable in Petersfield.
The 50-year-old’s varied career saw her become a superintendent in 2016, as well as spending ten years as a public order commander, and more recently a gold commander and head of operations for Hampshire and Isle of Wight, as well as Thames Valley Police, overseeing departments including the marine unit and the dog section.
