AN ISLE of Wight man who caused more than £2,200 worth of damage to a Salvation Army hostel in Newport has been ordered to pay a fraction of the sum.
Gavin Buggs, of Grove Road, Sandown, appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates on December 15.
At a previous hearing in November, the 43-year-old admitted causing £2,230.24 worth of criminal damage, namely to windows, at a Salvation Army premises on April 8.
He also admitted two counts of shoplifting, stealing £48 worth of alcohol from Tesco Express, in Lake, between August 16 and September 30.
Buggs was made subject of an 18-month community order, to include a nine-month alcohol treatment requirement and 30 rehabilitation days.
He was also ordered to pay £629.50 compensation.
