An emergency road closure is leading to delays in an Isle of Wight town centre this afternoon (Thursday).
Newport High Street has been shut for urgent repairs. It is believed a burst main is to blame.
The closure is necessary to allow for Southern Water to undertake utility repairs and maintenance works.
Work is taking place outside the O2 shop on the High Street.
The closure is having a knock-on effect on traffic elsewhere in the town.
Islanders have told the County Press it is 'complete gridlock' in Newport.
One driver said they have been sat in Sainsbury’s car park for 15 minutes, with no sign of moving.
