AN ISLE of Wight man, caught with cannabis after dropping some at the bar of a Newport pub, has been sentenced.

Linton Cider, of Medeway, Lake, appeared before magistrates on Tuesday, November 21.

The 25-year-old admitted possession of cannabis and using threatening/abusive words/behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress, in Newport.

Prosecutor, Ann Smout, said police were alerted by staff at The Man in the Moon public house, at around 11pm, on November 5.

She said officers were told Cider was seen to drop a bag of cannabis at the bar.

During a search, a grinder and small bag of cannabis was found in his possession.

Ms Smout said he was initially calm, but soon became aggressive toward police, refusing to calm down.

He was arrested, and later apologised to officers for being ‘rude and cocky’, telling them the cannabis helped him concentrate.

Barry Arnett, defending, said Cider pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity, on a full-facts basis, and wished to repeat how sorry he was for acting in the way he did.

Mr Arnett said his client was not proud of his actions.

Cider was fined £80 and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £32 surcharge.
