AN ISLE of Wight man who crashed his motorcycle after going out for drinks and declining a lift home from a friend has been banned from the road.

Ben Williams, of High Street, Ventnor, appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates on Tuesday, November 21.

The 21-year-old admitted drink driving in Newport, on July 30.

Prosecutor, Ann Smout, said Williams had been riding a black Honda motorcycle at around 2am.

She said he was involved in a crash and appeared intoxicated when police arrived.

The court heard Williams suffered fractured vertebrae and was taken to hospital for treatment, where he registered a blood-alcohol reading of 125 when the legal limit is 80.

Ms Smout said he was last in court back in June 2020, but for a dissimilar matter.

Barry Arnett, defending, said he was a foolish young man who declined a lift home from a friend after going out for a drink.

He said one drink led to more and it was a silly decision.

The court heard Williams clipped the kerb and went onto the grassy verge, and no other vehicles were involved.

Mr Arnett said Williams had learnt his lesson and was very ashamed.

Williams was fined £184 and disqualified from driving for 12 months.

He was ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £74 surcharge.
