A by-election will be held just days before Christmas to fill a gap on the Isle of Wight Council — and the first candidate has thrown their hat into the ring.
Following the resignation of Ventnor and St Lawrence councillor, Gary Peace at the end of October, a new representative is needed.
Enough people have now called for a by-election, that the Isle of Wight Council is putting the wheels in motion.
If more than one candidate comes forward to fill the vacant seat, the by-election will be held on Thursday, December 21.
Those wishing to stand have until Friday, November 24 at 4pm to return their nomination papers, which can be found here.
The first candidate to come forward is local businessman and operator of Ventnor Haven Management, Ed Blake, for the Conservatives.
Hoping to fill the former Tory seat, Mr Blake said he believes the ward needs a councillor who has lived there for their whole life, understands the priorities of local people and who can be a strong and effective voice on their behalf.
Those in Ventnor and St Lawrence who are not yet registered to vote, but would like to be, have until midnight on Tuesday, December 5. Applications can be made here.
Applications for those requiring a postal vote must be made to County Hall in Newport by 5pm on Wednesday, December 6.
