A BLOCKAGE of fat, oil and greases led to an "unpleasant" sewage issue in Cowes yesterday (Sunday, November 12).
Southern Water has today apologised for the distress caused to local residents and businesses.
A spokesperson for Southern Water said: “We’d like to apologise to residents and local businesses for the issues that were encountered due to a blocked sewer at Cross Street in Cowes – we know how unpleasant and distressing sewer flooding is.
“Our teams cleared the blockage that was caused by fat, oil and greases through heavy jetting on Sunday.”
Dirty water could be seen cascading down Shooters Hill and Cross Street yesterday.
Town councillor, and Cowes resident Cllr Phil Sanders, reported the leak to Southern Water and Island MP Bob Seely, who said workers have been 'prompted' and had been on site.
Residents of Cowes are being urged to report issues with drainage to Cllr Sanders on phill.sanders@outlook.com
