A body was found in the water during a Bembridge RNLI shout.
Police and other agencies had been searching for missing person Marc Richardson from Portsmouth.
At around 3pm yesterday (Friday, November 3), a body was recovered from the water near Selsey, West Sussex.
Formal identification has not yet taken place, but Marc’s next of kin have been informed.
The death is being treated as non-suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.
Bembridge had launched its RNLB Frank and Anne Wilkinson (Relief Tamar All-Weather Lifeboat 16-06) at 1.30pm at the request of UK (Solent) Coastguard to assist in a multi-agency search for a missing person in the Chichester/Langstone area.
Aside from the rain, conditions were pretty benign so it did not take long for them to begin a parallel track search slightly further offshore than other local lifeboats had carried out.
At around 3pm, the Coastguard helicopter (Rescue 175) spotted the casualty and the body was recovered.
