A man has been taken to hospital with head injuries after a group of burglars broke into his home and stole valuable items during the early hours of this morning (Thursday, November 2).

Police are investigating an aggravated burglary, which happened at the caravan park off Newport Road, near Apse Heath.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary were called at 1.54am with reports that a man in his 50s had been assaulted by a group of burglars who stole a phone and a Cartier watch.

The man received a head injury, which required hospital treatment but was not deemed life-threatening.

Police enquiries remain ongoing.

A spokesperson for the force said: "If anyone has information about this incident, or has been offered sale of a Cartier watch in suspicious circumstances, please contact police on 101, quoting 44230447772."
