A HELICOPTER is stuck on the top of Needles lighthouse today (Wednesday) and is expected to remain isolated up there during Storm Ciaran.

UPDATE: The helicopter has been safely recovered ahead of the storm.

PDG Aviation has confirmed one of its EC135T2 helicopters experienced a technical defect while carrying out flying tasks.

“This was in support of our customer Trinity House’s maintenance program,” said a spokesperson for PDG.

“The aircraft is currently parked on the Needles Lighthouse and will be recovered when weather conditions allow appropriate access for maintenance staff.”

Asked if there are fears the craft could be blown off during the storm, PDG says it has been securely lashed to the helideck.

A number of weather warnings are in force for the Isle of Wight, as Islanders brace themselves for the arrival of Storm Ciaran.
