WITH more extreme weather set to batter the Isle of Wight later this week, Mountbatten has pulled the plug on this coming weekend's Fairlee Fireworks extravaganza.
The Met Office has warned of Storm Ciaran set to hit the Island during the week, with TWO warnings in place.
The first warning, for rain, is set to start at 6pm on Wednesday, and will run until midnight on Thursday.
Alongside it, the second warning is for wind, which will be active from midnight on Wednesday through to 6pm on Thursday.
"Due to a prolonged spell of persistent wet weather — and with more extreme weather warnings forecast — we are very disappointed to announce we must postpone this weekend’s Fairlee Fireworks," a spokesperson for Mountbatten has posted on social media this afternoon (Monday).
"This has not been an easy decision to make, but the safety of our guests, volunteers, staff and suppliers are of the utmost importance to us all and, sadly, with the site under several inches of water, we simply cannot continue with the event this weekend."
Organisers have re-scheduled the event for Sunday, December 10, with all tickets already sold (including ZipFire entries) fully transferable.
They also advise ticket holders keep their QR codes for the rescheduled event.
"This event is hugely important to Mountbatten and, as you can imagine, this is not a decision we and our co-organisers have taken lightly.
"However, we are all working hard to ensure the show on December 10 is a family-friendly, fun-filled event, complete with ZipFire, fireworks and a magical Christmas twist!"
