THE fate of an Isle of Wight woman who refused to provide a drink-drive breath sample after driving erratically while more than three times the limit, is in the hands of magistrates.

Charlotte Browne, of Amherst Place, Ryde, admitted failing to provide a drink-drive specimen for analysis at Newport Police Station on October 6.

Police on patrol followed Browne between Ashey Road near Ryde to Long Lane in Newport and pulled her over after seeing her drive erratically — crossing the white line — said Liz Miller, prosecuting, at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court.

Police conducted a roadside test with Browne, on suspicion of drink-driving, and she provided a breath sample of 107 microgrammes — more than three times legal limit of 35.

Browne, 44, was subsequently arrested and taken to Newport Police Station, where she refused to provide a further breath sample for analysis.

There was no medical reason why Browne would not comply, Miss Miller added.

No mitigation was offered on Browne's behalf, but magistrates granted a probation report to cover all sentencing options, including possible imprisonment.

Browne was also made subject to an interim driving ban and bailed to reappear for sentencing on November 24.

Presiding magistrate, Peter Redding, told Browne the offence was so serious, custody would have to be considered.
