AN ISLE of Wight pub has announced it will be closing its doors for winter this year – a first for the business.

At 7pm on Sunday, the Buddle Inn will close for the winter months, not opening again until March.

This, the Niton pub says, is so work can be carried out to improve the venue, including the installation of a new kitchen, boutique accommodation and a barn renovation.

“While we have always stayed open through the winter, unfortunately, it just isn’t possible this year,” said a spokesperson for the Buddle.

“We have taken the decision to really invest into The Buddle this winter, starting with a new kitchen and extraction system.

“Working alongside this, we are finalising plans to put boutique accommodation above the pub, with work envisaged to start over the coming months.

“We are also working on the barn, to make it a great venue for functions.

“Taking into account all the work that will be going on and the associated disruption, we have made the decision that it is best to close rather than guests have a sub-standard experience.

"In creating a designated function facility, along with boutique accommodation, we really do believe The Buddle Inn can thrive for many years to come – creating extra employment and boosting the local economy.

"It goes without saying that we thank you all for your continued support over the last year and we look forward to welcoming you all back in March with a shiny new Buddle Inn.

"Wishing you a safe and healthy winter."
