A popular Isle of Wight restaurant is celebrating after winning a prestigious award at a national event showcasing Indian cuisine.
The Tamarind Indian, based on St James' Street in Newport, won in the Best Chef category at the Curry Life Awards 2023, held at a gala ceremony in London’s West End on October 15.
The awards, which celebrate the best of the best in the UK's multi-billion-pound curry industry, were held at the London Marriott and presented by ITV newsreader Lucrezia Millarini.
Speaking after the ceremony, Jila Miah, head chef and owner, said: “We’re delighted to have won this award, it means so much to us. Thanks to everyone who has supported us along the way.”
Jila works closely with his brother, Mahmudur, using their combined creativity and culinary skills to create new recipes guided by feedback and requests received from customers.
The award-winning restaurant has gained a solid reputation across the Isle of Wight, welcoming new and long-term customers.
New dishes from the menu include the Tandoori Jingha, with prawns, lamb or chicken and the chicken Nizami, made with ginger, yoghurt, mustard and chilli.
