An Isle of Wight man will be sentenced next month after he stole five packs of beer and attacked a shop worker.
Terence Perkins, of Orchardleigh Road, Shanklin, pleaded guilty to assault and theft from a shop at the Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, October 10.
Lauren Stone, prosecuting, said the 38-year-old visited the Co-op store on Regent Street, Shanklin, at 9.50am on August 20 and walked out with two packs of Kronenbourg beer without paying.
Ms Stone told the court he returned ten minutes later and stole three packs of Heineken.
A shop worker went outside after the second theft and asked Perkins to either pay for the beer or return them, the prosecution said.
Perkins refused and lifted the beer above his head to stop the worker from being able to take it.
Ms Stone said Perkins went to turn and leave but then pushed the shop worker into a parked car with enough force that they fell to the ground.
Michael McGoldrick, defending, said it was ‘no doubt a distressing incident for the victim’ and requested a pre-sentence report.
Magistrates ordered a pre-sentence report, with Perkins granted unconditional bail ahead of sentencing on November 10.
