AN ISLE of Wight mother was caught more than three times the drink-drive limit with her two young children in the car.

Bonnie Haynes, of Quarr Close, Ryde, appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates on Friday, September 29.

At a previous hearing, the 37-year-old admitted drink driving in her hometown, on July 5.

Prosecutor, Liz Miller, told the court Haynes was driving towards Newport at around 5pm.

She was seen to swerve and was stopped by police after turning on to Quarr Road.

Ms Miller said Haynes had her two children in the car – aged ten and four – and registered a blood-alcohol reading of 260 when the legal limit is 80.

Barry Arnett, defending, said there were already severe repercussions for Haynes. She was embarrassed and had been struggling with her mental health.

He said she had been working too hard, and the pressures of a second job and other factors got to her.

Mr Arnett said he was confident she would not find herself before the courts again, it was a blip, and a serious error of judgement on her part.

Haynes was made subject of a nine-month community order, to include 15 rehabilitation days, and was disqualified from driving for 26 months.

She was fined £180 and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £114 surcharge.
