AN ISLE of Wight man was caught drug driving his Peugeot car with cocaine and cannabis in his system, while running an emergency errand for his ex-partner, a court was told.

Jason Kennett, of Victoria Avenue, Shanklin, admitted two charges of drug driving on Newport Road, Sandown, on April 25.

Police on patrol saw Kennett drive towards Apse Heath without a seatbelt on and was pulled over.

He had a passenger in his car, and police said there was a strong smell of cannabis coming from the car.

He failed a roadside drugs test, for BZE, the deritative of cocaine, and THC, the cannabis metabolite, said Liz Miller, prosecuting, at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court.

When blood tested, his results revealed he had 564 microgrammes of BZE in his system, the legal limit being 50, and 6.6 microgrammes of THC, the limit being 2.0.

Kennett, unrepresented, said he went to the aid of his ex-partner, the mother of his three children, and was sorry he drove.

He also said he has mental health issues and problems with his back and leg.

Magistrates ordered a report on Kennett and bailed him to reappear for sentencing on October 20, and imposed an interim ban.
