It's Friday and what better way to celebrate the impending weekend than with a fish supper from one of the Isle of Wight's many, great fish n' chip shops?

Following the recent closure of Lake Fish Bar, and news that the two Happy Haddocks fish n' chip shops are for sale, you may be scratching your head as to where is best to go.

Serving up fish suppers since 1897, Stotesburys is the oldest fish n' chip shop on the Island.

Nestled in the heart of Nodehill, Newport, the chippy has recently been taken over by one of its long-term staff members, Danny Ditton.

Another favourite among Islanders is Wights, in Ryde.

The chippy is also rated 4.5 out of 5, according to TripAdvisor.

One reviewer said: "the lady was super friendly and the fish and chips were awesome!"

The fish n' chip shop is based on the High Street.


 Tonys Fish and Chip Shop, Ryde


A 4.5 out of 5 on TripAdvisor stands Tonys, in Ryde, in good stead.

The fish n' chip shop is based mere seconds away from Wights, making for stiff competition in the town.

Like Wights, there is a restaurant for customers to dine in, or alternatively, they can take their food away.

One reviewer said: "chips were homemade and crispy the fish batter was light".

A.J's Takeaway, Shanklin

With a 4.5 out of 5, according to TripAdvisor, A.J's Takeaway in Shanklin is among the best rated chippies on the Island.

Reviewers said: "Piping hot, freshly cooked and tasty and the portion of cod was HUGE! 

While another added: "Great takeaway!"

Ozze's Plaice, Newport
 

"Without a doubt the best chippy on the Isle of Wight by far", one reviewer said of Ozze's, in Pan, Newport.

TripAdvisor rates this chippy 4.5 out of 5.
