Two Isle of Wight councillors have thrown their hats into the ring to become MP.
Liberal democrat councillors Michael Lilley and Nick Stuart will be seeking nomination to represent the Island in the East Wight and West Wight seats, respectively.
Cllr Lilley, a former Mayor of Ryde, joined the Lib Dems earlier this year.
Cllr Stuart was the only approved Lib Dem parliamentary candidate on the Island between 2019 to 2023, and said he was pleased to see other candidates emerge.
The former civil servant will be looking to stand in the West Wight constituency.
After two recent Isle of Wight Council by-election wins, the pair said Liberal Democrats have the ‘best chance in a generation’ to deliver MPs to represent ‘the wider majority of fair-minded Islanders’.
We also know Conservatives Bob Seely and Joe Robertson intend to stand, along with Vix Lowthion and Cameron Palin for the Green Party. For Labour, Richard Quigley plans to seek nomination, when the party's process gets underway.
No date has been set yet for the next general election but it must take place by January 2025.
