ONE OF the organisers of the annual Isle of Wight Grand National and Ashey Scurry horse races — caught by police while more than twice the drink-drive limit in Newport town centre — appeared before Island magistrates.
Sharon Waghorn, of Sheepwash Lane, Godshill, admitted drink-driving along Church Litten on July 17.
After failing a roadside breath test, with subsequent arrest, the 52-year-old provided an alcohol breath test reading of 77 microgrammes. The legal limit is 35.
Waghorn was banned from driving for 20 months and handed a £253 fine, with £85 costs and a £101 surcharge.
