Isle of Wight tourism organisation, Visit Isle of Wight, will work alongside partners, regionally and nationally to promote the Island as a destination for visitors.
Island bosses say it means national recognition, after an independent review.
The government and VisitEngland will now work more closely with strategic and high-performing local visitor economy partnerships - or LVEPs - including Visit Isle of Wight.
Will Myles, MD at Visit Isle of Wight, said: "We continue to punch above our geographical weight, with an incredible offer from the landscape, businesses and people that make the Island an amazing destination.
"To be recognised at this level is a great achievement.
"It demonstrates the importance and impact the Island has at a national level. We were able to highlight that throughout the process.
"Visit Isle of Wight will have a clear, strategic link, from the local to the national level, alongside the other major visitor economy destinations across England, discussing matters relating to national tourism, hospitality and the visitor economy with VisitEngland and the government."
It is hoped it will mean a more joined-up approach to tourism and destination management and will give Visit Isle of Wight access to advice, toolkits and training resources.
Julie Jones-Evans, Isle of Wight Council's cabinet member for tourism, said: "This is great recognition of the work of Visit Isle of Wight. Congratulations!’
VisitEngland director, Andrew Stokes, said: "LVEPs are at the heart of transforming the visitor economy landscape in England.
"Having the right national and local infrastructure in place to grow our visitor economy, in an inclusive, accessible and sustainable way, will ensure England continues to be a compelling destination."
