This year's Pier2Pier swim on the Isle of Wight has been cancelled.
The annual event, which sees swimmers go between Sandown Pier and the old Shanklin Pier, had been reorganised to take place tomorrow (Saturday).
It came after bad weather put a stop to the original swim on July 22.
Organisers Isle of Wight Marlins Swim Club have now taken the decision to cancel it altogether.
Organiser, Robert Cooper, said: "The safety and well-being of swimmers and safety craft are our utmost priority, and this decision was made with careful consideration.
"We would like to extend our sincere apologies for the inconvenience that this cancellation will cause, and offer our heartfelt thanks to everyone who continues to support the event, including local charities, organisations and individuals, as well as the swimmers entered into the Swim."
The event is aiming to return next year, on what will be its 70th year.
Mr Cooper added: "We plan to make it a special and memorable celebration, scheduled for Saturday, July 20 with a back-up date of Saturday, August 3."
