An award-winning radio station which has been at the heart of the Isle of Wight's iconic Cowes Week for more than three decades, has announced it will not be providing coverage this year.

Cowes Radio has said 'the heart's not there any more' as it struggles for support and funding.

It brings an end to its 36 year era of reporting at the regatta.

The station is synonymous with the event, having provided continuous on-the-water commentary to spectators, on 87.9FM.

As well as live coverage, the team of presenters has also broadcast interviews with celebrities, skippers, crews and organisers to the on-shore crowd.

The official Cowes Week website states 'Cowes Radio is a really useful way of finding out what's going on with the up-to the minute daily guide to what's on and who's doing what.'

A statement from Cowes Radio added that its team will also not report on the Fastnet race, happening today (Saturday).

It said: "Sad to report, but we will not be broadcasting at Cowes Week, or the Fastnet due to a lack of support and funds.

"End of a 36 year era of outstanding, award-winning radio at the heart of the regatta. But the heart's not there any more."

Cowes Week starts on July 29 and runs to August 4.
