The Cowes Floating Bridge service has been suspended this evening (Sunday) due to a software issue.
Engineers have been contacted, the Isle of Wight Council said.
A launch service, the Jenny Lee, is now in operation for foot passengers and cyclists.
The floating bridge will likely remain out of service tomorrow (Monday) and the launch service has been scheduled to run from 5am.
The East Cowes passenger launch is from Gridiron Pontoon on Castle Street, which is adjacent to the Red Funnel vehicle check-in.
The Cowes passenger launch is from immediately adjacent to the floating bridge slipway.
A council spokesperson said: "We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and we will provide further updates as soon as possible."
