GOLF and snacks will be available at Browns Golf in Sandown this summer, but the cafe won't open fully before 2025.

The Isle of Wight Council confirmed this week new tenants are now in place.

They have set up a new Browns Golf Facebook page for updates.

A statement said: "To confirm the cafe is unlikely to be open before 2025.

"The golf courses are being cut, however the greens and fairways need more attention by a specialist.

"There are currently ongoing works inside and outside the golf shop. The inside will be finished by the end of next week.

"The outside work should be completed towards the end of July.

"The golf shop will sell tea/coffee, cakes, snacks, cold drinks and ice-cream.

"Its likely we will start selling sandwiches a few weeks from opening. Within a month, hopefully, we will aim to sell toasties, bacon sandwiches/baguettes and possibly chips.

"The main pitch and putt golf course playing area has been reduced by the council.

"As a result instead of a red and yellow course (18 holes) there will be one (red) 12 hole course and the fee will likely be £10 per round."

The future of Browns Golf Course on Culver Parade, has been up in the air for months after its previous managers left earlier this year.

Previous managers, Kate and Geoff Scandrett, took on the attraction in 2021 but handed back the keys in April after they turned down a five-year lease option.

Meanwhile, popular Isle of Wight band Lucid, who traditionally play a big gig on the August Bank Holiday Monday, and who have played at Browns in recent years, confirmed they will not be playing there this year.

They posted on Facebook: "Hi Folks, just to let you know unfortunately we will not be doing our annual 'Lucid on the Lawn' gig on August bank holiday Monday this year, due to no venue availability."
