An Isle of Wight RNLI crew has helped rescue a paddleboarder who went missing for eight hours.
Yarmouth RNLI, working with crews from Swanage, Poole, Mudeford, Lymington and multiple helicopters were called to a search in Poole Bay, off the Dorset coast, on Monday, July 3.
The Islanders were called to help, on board the West Wight-based Eric and Susan Hiscock – Wanderer, at 6:45pm.
Shortly after they joined the search, a member of the crew spotted what they believed to be a Wave Rider in the water.
It turned out to be one of the two missing people - on a paddleboard.
The person required hospital treatment and was winched to a helicopter from the deck of the Yarmouth lifeboat.
After dark, a second paddleboard was found on the Dorset coast and the second missing person was located, near Bournemouth Pier.
Yarmouth RNLI's Richard Pimm, mechanic, said: "This is what this institution exists for.
"This is why the RNLI was started. To save lives at sea, and tonight alongside Coastguard, and the police we did just that – we wish the two casualties a speedy recovery."
