An inaugural spoken word festival for Isle of Wight writers, wordsmiths and verbal artists is coming to Yarmouth.

The community hall, CHOYD, will be the venue for Yarnival, which will run on Friday, July 14, and Saturday, July 15.

There will be literary talks and poetry performances from Felicity Fair Thompson, Kevin Shaw, The Triple Crones, Steve Love and others.

On the Saturday afternoon, Yarnival will have readings and poetry performances, refreshments and a poet-tree to end the event.

Hosted by writer Jean G-Owen, there will be a line-up of artists from across the Island, including Steve Taverner, Word Spoken Song, Graham Brown, Cheryl May, Sandy Kealty, Erica Morley Hilliard.

In addition, writers from The Write Place writing group based at Freshwater Library will take part, as well as Island storyteller Monty Downers.

All the artists are based on the Isle of Wight and the event is the first of what organisers hope will become a yearly event.
