IN THE wake of the Round the Island Race, coastguard were called to rescue a man and his dog after a sailing boat crashed into Ryde Pier.
The man and his faithful hound were on board the vessel when it started drifting despite being anchored.
It collided with the pier and became stuck.
Ryde Rescue Inshore Lifeboat and Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team were among the crews called to the scene.
They responded at around 7pm and the pair were safely taken to shore.
