'We want to thank everyone for their support' say the landlords of a popular Isle of Wight pub, as they prepare to step aside after more than five years at the helm.

Sam and Pete Booth, from The Travellers Joy, Northwood, have announced they will pull their last pint come October.

The couple, who took over in 2017, say they have, with a 'very heavy heart', made the decision to step aside as 'health must come first'.

In a message to their customers, they told the County Press: "We love everyone. We want to thank everyone for their support over the years."

Although the pair took over five and a half years ago, their affiliation with the pub dates back a lot longer.

Before leasing the pub from owners Derek and Ruth Smith, Pete and Sam worked there, on and off, over 17 years.

They added: "We have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.

"We really appreciate being given the opportunity to be a very small part of the history of what is, once again an amazing pub.

"We personally thank all family and friends who have supported us over the years, and we look forward to your support over the next few months."

Last year The Travellers Joy was named as the County Press Pub of the Year 2022, following a public vote.

The team had double the reason to celebrate as the pub was also named the Isle of Wight CAMRA Pub of the Year.

The couple say they are stepping aside due to personal health issues.

Their lease ends in October.

They say Derek and Ruth will seek new landlords to take over.
