PUB landlord David Weedon has expressed his delight after customers voted his hostelry as Isle of Wight County Press Pub of the Year.
The popular Crab and Lobster Tap in Ventnor was named as the winner last week.
David, who runs the pub with wife Dianne, said: "We're absolutely delighted to receive the County Press accolade as best pub on the Island.
"There are so many amazing establishments and, lo and behold, a small backstreet pub has taken the honours.
"Some people like to credit the landlord for a pub's popularity, but I suspect the truth is that all such credits should be with the staff and the customers they serve."
He said the secret of the pub's success was consistency, their ever-popular Sunday roast which sells out most weeks, value for money, and their signature dish of fish and chips.
Davd's sense of humour and dry wit is probably another factor - he wanted us to mention the pub quiz which has been running for eight years, which he described as "especially awful".
The Pub of the Year award was voted for by County Press readers.
Ten Island pubs made the shortlist: The Castle Inn, Sandown, The Waverley Inn, Carisbrooke, The Taverners, Godshill, The Bugle Inn, Brading, Ventnor's Crab and Lobster Tap, The Newport Ale House, on Holyrood Street, The Red Lion in Freshwater, Chequers Inn, Rookley, Boojum and Snark, Sandown, and The Fighting Cocks at Hale Common.
Voting closed on June 18.
