"I have been here a few times over the years - but not for a while," said Glen Matlock, founding member of legendary punk band Sex Pistols, when he spoke to the Isle of Wight County Press, behind the Isle of Wight Festival's Main Stage.
Eagle-eyed fans of the iconic Blondie will have noticed Glen on bass guitar, when the band appeared yesterday (Sunday, June 18).
Glen was there because former bassist, Leigh Foxx, had to withdraw from live shows due to a back injury.
Sat on a festival buggy backstage, Glen said it's a busy time: "I have sort of joined [Blondie]. I have been playing with them for a year and a bit now."
"I have been doing some [solo shows] in between. Then I put the album out a few months back.
"I should be gigging with that, but I already agreed to do the Blondie thing, which I enjoy."
"I’ve been squeezing it all in, really!"
On stage...Blondie pulled out all the stops.
As well as classics Hanging on the Telephone and Call Me, they also paid homage to Glen's Sex Pistols.
They morphed the end of Heart of Glass into the Pistols' God Save the Queen.
Perhaps you saw Sex Pistols play the Isle of Wight Festival in 2008, alongside headliners The Police?
Meanwhile, at Coachella Festival in California, USA, earlier this year, while performing with Debbie Harry and co, Glen shared the stage with Isle of Wight Festival alumni Nile Rodgers.
What was it like playing with the great Nile?
"He kind of played with us," Glen said.
"He got up for a couple of numbers. You can see why he’s made a name for himself."
In April, Glen released Consequences Coming and he was pleased to find it has been getting really good reviews
While at the Isle of Wight Festival 2023, Glen found time to watch ‘a bit of Mika,’ but the rain meant he had to head off and take shelter elsewhere.
