An investigation has been launched after a woman suffered fractures to her face following an assault near the Isle of Wight Festival site yesterday (Saturday).

Police were called shortly after 4.30pm to a report that a woman in her 20s had been assaulted by a man unknown to her on Hillside.

It was reported that the man had hit the woman, causing fractures to her face.

A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson confirmed the woman was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been discharged. 

An investigation into this incident is underway, and police enquiries are ongoing today (Sunday).
