TWELVE Etchells battled it out on The Solent for this year's Sir Kenneth Preston Regatta in Cowes.

Hosted by the Royal Yacht Squadron, the three-day event was blessed with sunshine and wind.

The principle race officer, Philip Warwick, and his race team, was faced with difficult winds, but did a brilliant job, say organisers.

The opening race on the first day was won by youth team Ziggy, helmed by Jack Lewis — a great success for the Royal London Etchells Youth Academy.

However, Exabyte, helmed by Shaun Frohlich, managed to get into their groove and won the next two races.

Jolly Roger, helmed by Bruno Van-Dyke, scored a bullet in the fifth and seventh races on the second day, while Exabyte kept up its impressive low score line of a win and two seconds.

On the final day of racing, the wind picked up for a final day of champagne sailing.

The youth teams came out strong again, with Ziggy taking the bullet in Race 7, while Audrey, helmed by Vita Heathcote, took it in the eighth race.

The last race of the day was won by Standfast, helmed by Simon Patterson, a newcomer to the class.

Shaun Frohlich, sailing Exabyte, celebrated the overall win, with Bruno Van-Dyke (Jolly Roger), second, and Vita Heathcote (Audrey), the first youth boat, came third.

The first Corinthian place went to Jack Lewis (Ziggy).
