Bembridge Harbour Authority and Yarmouth Gig Rowing Club hosted Cornish Pilot Gig boat racing in sunny, breezy and sometimes challenging conditions last weekend.
Brading Haven Yacht Club undertook the course laying for Bembridge Gig Fest and provided safety boat support.
Saturday’s 2k multi-lane races saw wins in Women’s, Mixed and Open categories by the six-oared Gig crews from Eastney Cruising Association.

Close racing saw Eastney pip Yarmouth to the line by less than 3ft in the Open event.
Saturday evening’s on shore celebrations brought pizzas, burgers, prizes and live music from local band the Baggywrinkles at the Duver Marina.
Sunday saw the Gigs race a time-trial out to and around St Helen’s Fort.
Open category winners were Yarmouth, with Eastney taking the Mixed crew honours and Langstone Pilot Gig Club victorious in the women’s event.
