Protesters took to Newport High Street this morning, to raise awareness of their cause - fairer ferry fares.

Wightlink Users' Group, which started on Facebook, had hoped to take part in the Islands Forum, which Michael Gove is taking part in, on the Island this week.

They were disappointed not to be included, so decided to protest instead, to get their message heard.

They gathered outside County Hall with a loudhailer, and had support from Unison branch secretary Mark Chiverton and Labour's Richard Quigley.

Bronwyn said: "We did it and we had a good time! We’ve made our point and recruited new members. Another demo tomorrow in Shanklin.

"Our message is: Levelling Up not Sinking Down.

"Additional help for those accessing health services on the mainland and those visiting people in hospitals.

"Multilink passes for families who live on the mainland who want to see their elderly parents and their families.

"A late FastCat service all year round.

"Fairer and affordable fares - this is our lifeline!"

She thanked all those who attended.
