Bembridge Lifeboat Station is hosting a week-long programme of fun and educational activities over the half-term holiday.
The station's Yellow Welly Week takes place from today (Saturday) to Sunday, June 4.
The offshore boathouse will be open every day from 11am to 4pm for the public to view the all-weather lifeboat at close quarters and join in the activities.
There will be a range of activities, from lifejacket ‘clinics’ for boat users to information on coastal walking, fishing, kayaking, beach safety and all marine activities, including advice for coastal dog walkers.
There will be a range of fun activities for youngsters at the lifeboat station, from dressing-up in junior lifeboat crew kit to line-throwing to “rescue the teddy” and a “welly-wanging” competition on the beach.
There will also be a Mayday Mile, where volunteers can walk a sponsored mile up and down the lifeboat pier walkway.
A ‘D’ class inshore lifeboat will be on display at the Bembridge Street fair on Monday, May 29, giving youngsters a chance to go aboard, dressed in a junior lifeboat kit, and have their photos taken.
The evening training launch of the all-weather lifeboat is scheduled for Tuesday, May 30, at 7pm, which can be viewed from the boathouse.
There will also be a chance to meet the crew, after which hot dogs and drinks will be served at the inshore boathouse at the ‘sausage sizzle’.
The offshore boathouse will be open every day from 11am to 3.45pm.
