A MAN has denied two counts of causing unnecessary suffering to his pet dog.
The RSPCA took Stuart Squibb to court over the alleged offences and there will now be a trial.
Mr Squibb, 26, of Lower Furlongs, Brading, appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, May 16.
The court heard from Sarah Wheadon, representing the RSPCA, that Mr Squibb's pet whippet was 11 years old and was assessed when presented at the vets as emaciated with severe loss of muscle, in discomfort and unable to stand.
The prognosis was so poor, she was euthanised that day.
Mr Squibb denies failing to investigate and address the cause of the dog's condition, and failing to provide veterinary treatment between November 14, 2022, and January 14, 2023.
Mr Squibb argues he took good care of the dog.
A trial date was set for August 31.
