Business owners along a popular Isle of Wight seafront are breathing a sigh of relief after it was revealed a road closure, impacting trade, will be lifted earlier than planned.
The main route to Ventnor Esplanade has been shut since yesterday (Monday), and was expected to be closed for around two weeks while works take place.
Southern Water is carrying out sewer repairs on Shore Hill, or The Cascades - the road which leads directly to the seafront.
Business owners labelled the closure 'disastrous' and said the signs are misleading because visitors to the town either think the whole seafront is inaccessible, or don't want to use the very steep alternative route.

Southern Water has confirmed the signs have since been updated.
The other end of the seafront, up past The Spyglass and La Falaise car park, recently re-opened after several months of being closed.
The utility firm has apologised to businesses and said it hopes to have the road reopen by Friday, as works are ahead of schedule.
In a statement to the County Press, it said: “We’re carrying out essential work at Ventnor to repair the sewer we’re sorry for the impact this is having on local residents and businesses.
“We recognise the impact of this work in the area and met with businesses and residents last week to listen to their concerns.
"We also continue to be in regular contact with local councillors in the area.”
